Novels In Verse Reading Challenge

The Novels In Verse Reading Challenge
Hosted by: Born Bookish

I've never thought much about novels that are written in verse.  I think I've read maybe two in my life, and for some reason have since completely dismissed them altogether.  For no real reason.  Maybe those two I read weren't that great and I've been asuming that if those two weren't great, none of them are.  Which is a totally backwards way of thinking that doesn't make a whole lot of sense, but there you go.

So when I stumbled upon Born Bookish's Novels In Verse Reading Challenge, I thought it would be a great opportunity to try out some more of this genre.  Basically, throwing the word "Challenge" around is a good way to get me to read anything.

I have decided to stay simple and try for the Haiku level this year - one to four books written in verse.  Which seems kind of wimpy if I think about it, but this is new territory for me, and maybe those two I've read before really were great and I'm just not a fan of verse writing.  It's entirely possible.  We'll just have to wait and see.  For now, the books I'm planning to read for this challenge are:

Love & Leftovers by Sarah Tregay
May B. by Caroline Starr Rose
Because I Am Furniture by Thalia Chaltas
The Day Before by Lisa Schroeder

The best part?  Three of these were already on my wishlist, and I didn't even know they were written in verse.  Take that, verse-hating self!

  1. Hi Michelle,
Welcome aboard the challenge! =) I'm so excited that you have decided to give novels in verse another chance! You've picked some good books there. I've read all except Love & Leftovers, which is on my list!

  3. I just ordered a bunch of Lisa Schroeder books through interlibrary loan. I'm also dying to read Because I Am Furniture.

I love the idea for this website!
